If you took a slow-motion video of yourself biting into a Haitian patty at Kafe Louverture in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, it would look like this: The outer layer of pastry would shatter dramatically, like powdery snow blasting off a pair of skis. 

Anthony Cunningham is making an investment. "Rocky Mount is a growing city," he said.

Cunningham is relocating his New York Times featured Haitian restaurant out of Brooklyn.

The Kafe Louverture Restaurant specializes in hand-rolled Haitian Patties. They make chicken, beef, fish, veggie and lamb patties. Additional items offered include quiche, lemon ginger, turmeric drink and a very good Haitian Rum Cake.

Saget, who immigrated from Haiti to the U.S. as an infant, told those gathered for the ribbon cutting that she learned to make patties (meat, spice and vegetable stuffed pastries) from her grandmother.

Anthony Cunningham, who co-owns Kafe Louverture, which is off Tarboro Street downtown, extended the invitation to members of Girl Scouts Troop 2111 to come enjoy five days of outdoor activities and to learn about what farm life is like.
